Stephen Szili
Executive Chef/Program Visionary
For over 25 years, Steve has combined his passion for education, mindfulness, and community service to inspire students to lead not just academically, but holistically. At universities like UMD, UMBC, GWU, American University, and George Mason, he hosted weekly mindfulness, yoga, and meditation sessions to help students manage stress and cultivate spiritual well-being.
When COVID-19 paused campus outreach, Steve launched a food truck to deliver hot, nutritious vegan meals to those in need, powered by the support of friends, family, and community. To date, the initiative has served over 150,000 plates. With help from city partners and grant support, Steve and his team are now working to make Baltimore the first major U.S. city to become a “HUNGER-FREE ZONE.”

Dr. Verma strongly believes in the mission of Hunger Free Zone and is dedicated to providing nourishing meals to the people of Baltimore. With each meal served, his vision of compassion comes to life in novel ways, offering not just food, but a reminder that every person is seen, valued, and loved.
